" Worldmaking: The Art of Robert Kameczura. "
Robert Kameczura has been variously described as a “Chicago’s reining
genius of the Giclee” and “The next Ed Paschke” by collectors and
critics. Mr. Kameczura has exhibited internationally and has had
several recent exhibit in museums in the U.S.A. and Japan, and is
slowly being recognized as a new major figure in Chicago Art. He is
sometimes referred to as a “Contemporary Old Master.”
His paintings are on an epic scale with many characters and
highly romantic settings and feature rich color and a long line
symphonic unity of composition. His work features very distinctive and
beautiful color, often contrasting warm and cool colors in unusual
combinations, the effect is often called “shimmering and opalescent.”
His work features virtuoso draftsmanship and often involves deep
psychological insight into his characters.
His digital giclee work, is sometimes based on photographs and other times
on drawings. It is noted for subtle coloration and design, rich
textures and a highly imaginative approach to subject matter. His
themes are humanistic and he occasionally used the device of referring
to old myths and stories and recreating them in a totally modern and
unexpected contexts. Some of his works have titles like “Pandora”
“The Birth of Venus” “Passing on the Legacy” and “Veni Creator
Spiritus.” Several of Mr. Kameczura’s pieces reflect his interest in
modern dance (he has been a designer for several modern dance
companies) as well as wide knowege of literature. (He holds a degree
in Poetry and Literature and is a published poet.)
He has had over a dozen exhibits purely as a black and white photographer.
His photography has a slightly surreal quality, often combining two dimensional
pattern with three dimensional subject matter. Several of his photographs
again reflect his interest in modern dance. His dance photography has been
published in many magazines and newspapers, including Dance Magazine,
Chicago Magazine and the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times, to name
but a few.
